Pure Tone Audiometry (PTA)
Gold-standard hearing threshold measurement
Speech Audiometry
Word recognition & speech clarity assessment
Tympanometry
Objective middle ear function testing
What is a Hearing Checkup?
A hearing evaluation is a series of clinical tests that measure how well you hear sounds across different frequencies and volumes. It helps identify whether a hearing problem exists, its type (conductive, sensorineural, or mixed), and the best course of treatment.
A Complete Picture of Your Hearing Health
At Unikol, a hearing checkup is not just a basic screening — it is a comprehensive, multi-test evaluation designed to give your audiologist the full clinical picture needed to recommend the right treatment.
Our certified audiologists use calibrated, internationally validated audiometric equipment. Every test is documented and results are explained to you in plain language so you always understand what your hearing evaluation means.
💡 Did you know? Up to 70% of hearing loss in India goes undetected for years. A hearing checkup is the first — and most important — step towards better hearing.
3 Core Tests — In Every Evaluation
Pure Tone Audiometry
The gold-standard hearing test. You listen to pure tones at different frequencies (250 Hz to 8000 Hz) through headphones and indicate when you can hear them. Results are plotted on an audiogram.
Speech Audiometry
Evaluates how well you understand spoken words, not just pure tones. This test reveals whether your hearing loss affects your ability to follow everyday conversations — critical for determining hearing aid benefit.
Tympanometry
An objective test of middle ear function. A small probe tip is placed gently in the ear canal — no discomfort — to measure how the eardrum and middle ear respond to air pressure changes.
✅ Additional tests available: Acoustic Reflex Testing, Uncomfortable Loudness Levels (ULL), High-Frequency Audiometry — recommended by your audiologist where clinically indicated.
Your Hearing Checkup — Step by Step
Registration & History
We ask about your hearing concerns, medical history, noise exposure, and any medications.
Otoscopy
Visual inspection of the ear canal and eardrum using an otoscope to check for wax or physical abnormalities.
Tympanometry
Quick objective middle ear test. Results available immediately.
PTA Testing
Pure tone air and bone conduction thresholds measured across all key frequencies.
Speech Audiometry
Word recognition and speech detection testing to assess communication ability.
Counselling & Report
Your audiologist explains results clearly and discusses treatment options with you and your family.
Who Should Get a Hearing Checkup?
Newborns & Infants
OAE-based screening from birth. Early detection is critical for speech and language development.
Children
If your child struggles in school, doesn't respond to their name, or has speech delays — a hearing test is the first step.
Adults
Frequently asking others to repeat themselves? Struggling in noise? Turning the TV up? Get tested.
Seniors (50+)
Annual hearing checkups are recommended for everyone above 50 — hearing loss is gradual and often unnoticed.
Occupational Exposure
Workers in factories, construction, or around loud machinery should have yearly hearing assessments.
Musicians & Earphone Users
Regular, loud earphone use and concert exposure can cause permanent noise-induced hearing loss.
Common Questions
Not at all. All our tests — PTA, Speech Audiometry, and Tympanometry — are 100% non-invasive and painless. The complete evaluation takes 30–45 minutes.
No prescription or referral is required. You can walk in or book directly. Our audiologist will evaluate you and recommend the next steps.
Yes. We offer OAE and BERA-based testing for newborns and infants. The tests are performed while the baby is calm or sleeping — no discomfort at all.
The audiogram shows your hearing thresholds across different frequencies for each ear. Your audiologist will explain it in plain language and detail any recommended next steps.
We recommend an annual hearing checkup for everyone above 50, and for anyone with occupational noise exposure. Children should be screened at key developmental milestones.
